100th Anniversary Quilt

We are thrilled to announce the CECR Commemorative Quilt, which will honor our 100th anniversary as a Region (in 1922 with the Chartering of SI/Washington, DC). Each Club is requested to join the region in creating a square for the CECR Commemorative quilt. The quilt will be displayed at our 2023 Spring Conference in Ashville, NC this May. Julianne Walther from SI/Raleigh, owns the Cary Quilting Company has agreed to assemble them into a beautiful quilt.

We will recognize the club with the most creative and inspirational quilt square with a special gift.

Details on the Quilt Square:

  • Each square should be 10″ square (each square will be 9″ square, finished)
  • please do not have any of your design encroach on the 1/2″ seam allowance on each side.
  • Material should be 100% quilting cotton (please use quilt-shop quality fabrics, It is not recommended to get fabrics from JoAnn, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, etc., because they are of a lesser quality and are more likely to fade, tear and degrade over time).
    • You may contact Julianne at [email protected] for recommendation on where to go in your area or enjoy a 25% discount on fabric from Julianne Walther’s shop by going to caryquilting.com, use the online code Soroptimist which is good through 4/30/23.
  • The block designed can be pieced, appliqued, embroidered, drawn, painted, photo transferred, etc.
  • Because of the way the finish quit will be machine quilted, everything you add should be able to be sewn through. This means no puffy paint, iron on plastic letters, rhinestones, buttons, or other hard items should be added to the block. Nothing should be dimensional, so no lace, ribbon, should be added if it comes off to the surface of the block, and the block itself should lay flat.

Completed squares should be mailed by April 3rd to:
